Social City iPhone game

Designing the UI, interaction flow, and push notifications for a mobile version of Social City (at the time, Playdom’s most popular game on Facebook).

Lucky Farkle

UIST 2008 Paper: Harvesting Helpfulness: Studying an Online Farmer’s Forum

I was part of a three person research team investigating how to help users better navigate an online forum. We inserted small maps into each thread, showing the geographic locations of users. Published in Proceedings of ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology.

Data Visualization: Twitter

A data visualization of the Twitter hashtag #nerdpickuplines, investigating how it spread and the actions of the users that spread it. I designed and implemented the whole thing, using the Flare library in Flex (ActionScript 3).

iPhone game: TattleTalz

An iPhone game, created in three days, which won the Best Game award at iPhoneDevCamp. I codesigned the interactions and user interface, developed the whole backend, and most of the frontend.

iPhone Application: PocketGreet

PocketGreet is an iPhone application for sending and receiving greeting cards, built with Mike Krieger.

Facebook game: Snowball Fight

Facebook game of throwing snowballs at each other. Traffic hit a huge spike, and peaked at 42,092 throws in one day!

Redesign of information request form

This form, to request information about getting a online or offline degree, benefited strongly from a redesign. I came up with this alternative flow, which the graphic artist who had created the original design loved it. Our client did, too.

Javascript + PHP/MySQL encrypted chat

After learning how public-key cryptography worked, I wanted to test my knowledge. I’d been looking for a secure web-based text chat, and couldn’t find any. So I decided I’d make one.

Research on haptic interfaces for cars

Haptic interfaces connect “to the user via the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations, and/or motions to the user” (Wikipedia). Our research explored using haptic interfaces to improve driving habits and safety.
